Making New Year Intentions a Family Affair…

Settling into the New Year with your new healthy vision is great, but if you have other family members you are preparing meals for, it can quickly get sabotaged making separate meals to satisfy everyone. This is where creating a vision and plan for everyone helps you stay on track.

Your goal may be weight loss, resetting your metabolism to lose those extra holiday pounds, or improving your health, but there is so much more to our diets; the nourishing aspect! It goes back to thinking about how you want to feel, not just how you want to look.

I love to start my intentions with “building a life that I love” then creating details of that vision. When you’ve completed your list (vision), what is that ONE common thing that will help you reach those goals?

Optimal Healing, Part III – Creating Calm

Optimal Healing, Part III – Creating Calm

With the holiday season just a week away, comes the need for creating calm in our daily lives. This helps tie in the conclusion of the “Optimal Healing” series and begin our holiday festivities with a plan for less pain inducing foods and practices, leaving time for the true joy in the holiday season.

In the first two parts of the series we covered some of the key foods and supplements that can help promote a healthy, anti-inflammatory balance. The missing part to creating a complete balanced affect is obtaining quality sleep and calming any added stress. This not only applies to preparing for those unexpected health issues, but also good rules to follow this time of year, that can keep us feeling light and energized throughout the holiday season. Although much needed at times, when we can create a healthier balance with food and other natural alternatives, we may be able to minimize the amount needed when illness strikes or recovery is needed. So how can we be prepared with more natural remedies on hand to help create that balance?

Apple Crisp the – Gluten & Guilt Free way

The start of apple season lures me in each year to my old time family favorites (maybe with a healthier twist). Growing up with apple trees, the smell of fresh made applesauce and apple pies, has me rushing to my local farmer’s market and health food coop to buy tasty, local, organic apples each Fall. It’s the next best thing to getting them freshly picked from a local farm.

I wanted to share my easy to put together favorite, apple crisp. You don’t need a crust (although you can add one if you’d like), and this version is Gluten and Guilt Free! Enjoy and have a happy Fall season!

Optimal Healing, Part 1: Creating your Food Farmacy

Optimal Healing, Part 1: Creating your Food Farmacy

Are you prepared for life’s unexpected health encounters? Whether it’s the unexpected accident, sports injury, illness, or caring for a loved one, attempting a crash course of balanced eating/living doesn’t give the same short term affects as a crash diet.  Eating and enjoying a healthy lifestyle has so many benefits aside from managing our weight, but it does take a little planning. When done right, it can mean the difference of maintaining some control and leaving us with a healthy edge when finding ourselves or the health of a loved one compromised.

After recently finding myself on the “healing” side after a surgical procedure with only a few weeks to prepare, I discovered that my normally healthy, balanced lifestyle was a good foundation, but is it enough to address healing and pain? We often rely on the hope that medications will take care of the rest, but when the unexpected occurs a different route may be needed. How about a delicious Food Farmacy to start?
