Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Guacamole & Baked Tortilla Chips

You don’t have to be Mexican or sabotage your diet to enjoy Cinco de Mayo! There are many delicious Mexican dishes I enjoy, but one of my favorites I whip up all year round is Guacamole. It’s so easy to make and you can put your own spin on it with adding cilantro, different spicy peppers, or just make it plain. Either way, the avocado’s are packed with nutrients, healthy fat, and add your own baked chips and you’re all set. All too often we are preoccupied with thoughts and things to do, or we are multi tasking and practically swallow our food whole!  On average we chew each bite only eight times and this can have a big impact. Heart Healthy Tip #3, Breathe!

Heart Healthy Tip #3, Breathe!

Concluding our healthy heart focus, there is one thing our bodies stop doing when under stress, breathe! Its’ often something we don’t realize or give much thought to, but can be crucial to relaxing and relieving stress. Meditation is another good source but you need a quiet place to sit with music. This simple technique is one I love because you can do it anywhere, you don’t need any equipment, and you feel instant results. It acts as a natural tranquilizer and instantly calms the  nervous system. I learned this technique years ago from Dr. Andrew Weil and it has become a daily tool for me. Just follow these directions and it will soon become second nature.
