Apple season is my favorite time of year, bringing back memories of apple picking, homemade applesauce that never had the chance to cool, and warm apple crisp. If you’re heading out for apples this weekend, try this easy recipe everyone will enjoy snacking on. Tasting like a little slice of apple pie without the calories, it’s an easy snack that can even be enjoyed on the run.
Ingredients
- 2 cups apple juice or apple cider
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 2 apples (Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, Pink Lady)
- Saigon Cinnamon (to sprinkle on chips after baking)
Directions
- Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
- Bring apple juice and cinnamon stick to low boil. Allow it to simmer for 5-10 minutes to gain more flavor from cinnamon stick, then return to low boil.
- Core apple and slice as thinly as possible into rings. (Use a sharp knife or mandolin slicer. The thinner the slices, the crisper the chips will be)
- Drop into boiling apple juice and let it cook for about 5 minutes or until wilted and translucent.
- Dry on paper towels.
- Place on cooling rack and bake in oven for 45 min. – 1 hour, or until crisp and lightly golden brown.
- Check on them halfway through and turn over for even baking.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle with cinnamon and let cool.
