With the holiday season quickly approaching, the last thing anyone wants is to be feeling sick with a cold or flu symptoms. The healing effects of homemade soups (great to have in the freezer) and lavender baths can feel wonderful, but sometimes we need a little more. A favorite to clear up chest congestion is Eucalyptus essential oil. Yes, one of the main ingredients in the old time remedy “Vick’s” but without the added unhealthier ingredients. So how can this help?

It isn’t Fall without fresh, local, organic apples! Growing up in a colder climate with local apple farms, the Fall season brings back those wonderful memories of apple picking at my Grandmother’s, homemade applesauce that never had the chance to cool before we gobbled it all up, and warm apple crisp.
If you’re heading out for apples this weekend, or hosting a Halloween party, try this easy recipe everyone will enjoy snacking on. It’s almost like a little slice of apple pie without the calories, it’s an easy snack that can even be enjoyed on the run.

As we wind down last month’s focus on food ingredients and their many health effects, I couldn’t go without mentioning another Fall focus; cancer awareness! With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness month and October Breast Cancer Awareness, there are lessons we can adapt into our lives, whether we’ve experienced cancer in our family or not! This is not a subject many of us want to think about, and you may seem far removed from it, but the fact is approximately “1 in 285 children in the USA are diagnosed with cancer before the age of 19”, and an estimated “1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer”. There is a growing number of children being diagnosed with various forms of this disease. After all, it’s not just adult cancer cases that are growing.
So how does this affect us all and what does food have to do with it? Knowledge is everything…
