Settling into the New Year with your new healthy vision is great, but if you have other family members you are preparing meals for, it can quickly get sabotaged making separate meals to satisfy everyone. This is where creating a vision and plan for everyone helps you stay on track.
Your goal may be weight loss, resetting your metabolism to lose those extra holiday pounds, or improving your health, but there is so much more to our diets; the nourishing aspect! It goes back to thinking about how you want to feel, not just how you want to look.
I love to start my intentions with “building a life that I love” then creating details of that vision. When you’ve completed your list (vision), what is that ONE common thing that will help you reach those goals?
Feeling vibrant! Starting each day with the feeling of being energized, focused, and engaged is something that will help you and each family member get the most out of each day. Think clarity in the morning for work, school, homework, physical activity. It’s the first step to any intention for the New Year.
Here are three steps to you get started…
- Begin each day with a nourishing breakfast… Kick the quick, sugary breakfast items out of the kitchen and add healthier, energizing foods to the menu. It doesn’t have to be a big time commitment when you consider things like breakfast smoothies, overnight oatmeal, or make ahead breakfast burritos. Send everyone out the door feeling energized, focused, and ready to work, learn, and play.
- Adding more whole foods to your meals…Stepping into the kitchen with nourishment in mind is a great way to start, eliminating more of the processed foods and adding more herbs and spices to flavor your food naturally will have everyone enjoying it!
- Cooking only “1” meal… Let family members be part of the process! Kids and spouses alike can choose the vegetable of the day, so everyone is happy when they have a part in mealtime. This will remove the “short order cook” and have you cooking just “1” meal that everyone will enjoy!
So where do you begin? Plan some quiet time to get clear on your vision of wellness, then extend it to the family, getting them on board with wanting to feel more engaged in the morning at work, school, or having the energy to compete in sports or enjoy that exotic vacation. They’ll quickly see the rewards after creating some small, healthier habits.
