There is nothing more daunting than the anticipation of a major storm coming to the area.. The media hype can help get us motivated to prepare, but it also puts a lot of stress on us with the anticipation building as the storm nears.
After surviving 5 major hurricanes in 3 years, in addition to many more storms, these tips definitely made it more enjoyable for me.

Start baking before the lights go out. Make 1 or 2 favorite, healthy but yummy snacks you can enjoy to help relieve some of the stress. Maybe some oatmeal chocolate chip cookies, and a pumpkin smoothie that can be kept in the refrigerator.

September is “Healthy Breakfast Month” and it really is appropriate for getting back into our routines after the summer, and setting ourselves up for an energizing day!
Here is a quick smoothie recipe for those hectic days when you need something “on the run”, that will give you the protein, fruit, and fuel you and your family need for starting a productive day.

Remember Fig Newton’s? That was my only exposure to figs until a trip to Italy years ago, which opened my eyes & taste buds to a wonderful fruit! This is one of my favorite fig recipes to enjoy while our Fig tree is full of fruit.

New studies have shown that less time sitting = longer life span. Of course our work schedules may not allow us to move all day, but adding a lunchtime or evening walk while catching up with friends, some stretches, and maybe a little gardening could possibly add years to your life.
