Beanilicious Brownies
Chocolate brownies are a big favorite in many households, including mine. This gluten free, high fiber version is so good that your family won’t realize they may actually be better for them.

With the start of school here for many of us, it’s a great time to start planning for the shift from the more relaxed summer schedule. While planning for school clothes and supplies, don’t forget meal planning. Did you know that studies show that children who eat a healthy breakfast score higher on tests and overall, do much better academically?
While we’re all still feeling the effects of the summer heat and sports season is just around the corner, there is one question that comes up quite often. Do I need a sports drink to replenish nutrients lost in the heat?
One of my favorite ice cream pops as a child was the creamsicle. That wonderful orange cream flavor was so refreshing on a hot summer evening. While thinking of this the other day, I decided to make a smoothie version that not only tastes delicious, but it can pass as a meal too. You can opt to make yours green or not, but just a tip if you haven’t tried a smoothie with fresh spinach, it really doesn’t change the flavor but it’s packed with fiber and nutrients.
Does living a healthy lifestyle have to be all or nothing? Absolutely not! Striving to live by the 80/20 rule can keep it healthy while allowing for those little, occasional splurges. It works like this: at least 80% of the time you consume healthy, whole foods, while the other 15-20% you may choose to eat out, have a slice of pizza, enjoy cake at a birthday celebration or some other small treat. It can also mean skipping a day of exercise to do something different like relaxing on the porch with a glass of lemonade and a good book!
